About Me
Hi, I’m Danny Gilbert. I’m 21 years old and I have a lot of interests and hobbies, My primary interests being the internet, computers and technology though I’m also interested in electronics, woodwork, metalwork, pyrotechnics, photography, professional sound & lighting, video production and many other things.
I’m into watching movies and most often I’m more interested in special features such as directors commentary and the making, I probably have more variety in music taste then anyone, if you were to look through my iTunes list I think you’d be surprised.
I’ve been using computers since 1996 (when I was 7) I started out with an old IBM desktop with 8MB of RAM and a 5¼″ 110MB Hard Drive, It ran Microsoft Windows 3.0 on top of DOS 6.0, I can’t exactly remember much about what I did but I do remember playing some classic games like Snake & Pong, I used to type out documents in notepad and print them out on a Dot Matrix printer, ah the memories.
In 1999 (When I was 10) things started to really take off, I upgraded from the IBM PC by building my own desktop PC, which in them days was a pretty rare thing to do, I remember following a really big book and reading the motherboard manual 50 times over. It was a Pentium II 450 MHz Processor with 64MB of RAM, A 1GB Hard Drive and integrated graphics. It ran windows 98 and was amazing!
I also got the luxury of dial up internet, the internet was very different to what it is now, I remember friends used to send me an email, then phone up to tell me they had sent me an email. Having the internet at this stage was pretty much where things started with me, any information I could lay my hands on was saved to my massive 1GB hard drive and read offline, I had a massive thirst for information, I remember spending time in bulletin boards and when I discovered the Astalavista.com website that was it for me, geek from then on.
